Prof. Dr. Özgür Akbayır was born in 1972. He graduated from Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa English Faculty of Medicine in 1996 with third place. In the same year, he started his specialization in gynecology and obstetrics at Bakırköy Maternity Home, Gynecology and Children's Diseases training and research hospital. He completed his specialization in 2001 and became a gynecologist and obstetrician. Immediately afterwards, he started working as a specialist doctor in the gynecological oncology clinic at the same hospital in 2002.
After moving to Bakırköy Maternity Home, Gynecology and Children's Diseases Hospital, he continued to work in the gynecological oncology clinic of Istanbul Suleiman the Magnificent Hospital. He qualified as a Gynecological Oncology Surgery Subspecialist at the same hospital in 2011. He became an Associate Professor at the same hospital in 2013. In 2014, he officially established the Gynecological Oncology Subspecialty Clinic in the same hospital. He trained 7 gynecological oncology subspecialty assistants in the same clinic until 2020. He started working at Istanbul Cemil Taşcıoğlu City Hospital (Eski Okmeydanı EAH) in 2020.
In May 2021, he continued to work as a faculty member with the professor staff at Istanbul Health Sciences University, Hamidiye Faculty of Medicine, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. In the same year, Prof. Dr. He established the Gynecological Oncology Sub-Branch Clinic at Cemil Taşçıoğlu City Hospital. He trained 5 more gynecological oncology subspecialty assistants here. Until August 2023, Prof. Dr. He worked as Administrative and Training Responsible at Cemil Taşçıoğlu City Hospital, Gynecological Oncology Sub-Branch Clinic.
He has been serving in his private practice since September 2023.
