He was born in Istanbul in 1970. He graduated from Kadıköy Anatolian High School in 1988 and Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 1994. He specialized in Thoracic Surgery at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine between 1994-1999. During his specialization, he worked in the laboratory of Dr.Mehmet C.Öz at Columbia Presbytarian Medical Center, New York, for 6 months, starting from September 1997.
After specialization, she worked as a clinical senior specialist doctor at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, under the supervision of Dr. David J. Sugarbaker and Dr. Scott J. Swanson, between 1999 and 2001. She has received training in videothoracoscopic and laparoscopic surgery, esophageal (anti-reflux and cancer) and mesothelioma surgery. He became an Associate Professor in 2005 and a Professor in 2010. He left Marmara University in 2021 and currently works in his private practice and Memorial Health Group. He also serves as a visiting professor at Biruni University Faculty of Medicine.
He is the first thoracic surgeon accepted as a member of the American Association of Thoracic Surgeons. He is currently the Secretary General of the European Association of Thoracic Surgeons.
