He was born on 3/05/1962 in Sinop. He graduated from Istanbul Pertevniyal High School in 1979. He started his medical education at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1981 and completed it in 1987. In the same year, I passed the specialization exam and started my specialization training at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery. In February 1994, he became a general surgeon by presenting his thesis based on experimental study titled "Comparison of the Effects of Aprotinin and Prostaglandin E1 on Colon Anastomosis Healing".
Between 1994 and 1999, he worked as a general surgeon at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery. He became an associate professor in 1999 and a professor in 2005. He currently works as a lecturer in the same department.
His special areas of expertise are liver, pancreas and biliary tract surgery, kidney and liver transplantation and laparoscopic treatment of intra-abdominal adhesions. He is currently responsible for the kidney transplantation program at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine.
Prof. Dr. Salih Pekmezci has been an active member of many professional associations and served on the boards of directors of various associations. He also served as a speaker and panelist in many national and international scientific meetings and took part in the organizing committees of many of them. He has many articles published in national and international journals and congress papers presented at national and international congresses. He also took part as an author in many scientific books.
Prof. Dr. Salih Pekmezci speaks English; He is married and has two children.
