Orthopedic, Traumatology, and Spine Specialist

Associate Professor Dr. Ahmed Heydar completed his medical education in 2005 at the Faculty of Medicine, Salahaddin University in Erbil, Iraq, earning his M.D. degree. He then began his residency training in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine and became a board-certified specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology in 2015.

Following his residency, he was certified by the Turkish Board of Orthopedics and Traumatology (TOTEK) and became a member of TOTEK. In 2016, he earned the title of Fellow of the European Board of Orthopedics and Traumatology (FEBOT) from the European Association for Orthopedics and Traumatology. To further his professional development, he completed advanced training in minimally invasive spine surgery, including a fellowship program in spine surgery at Okayama Rosai Hospital in Japan. In recognition of his academic and scientific contributions, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor by the Inter-University Council in 2025.

Throughout his professional career, Dr. Heydar has held key positions at public and private healthcare institutions in Iraq and Turkey. He began his career in orthopedics at Medistate Kavacık Private Hospital in 2015, after which he served as General Director and Specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology at Medistate Hospital in Erbil. He served as an Orthopedic and Traumatology Specialist at Mardin Kızıltepe State Hospital (2018–2020), Kocaeli Derince Training and Research Hospital (2020–2021), Esenyurt Necmi Kadıoğlu State Hospital (2021–2023), and Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital (2023–2026) he began seeing patients at his own private practice in 2026. During the same period, he also served as Chair of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology and as a faculty member at Istanbul Arel University’s Faculty of Medicine, making significant contributions to medical education, residency training, and patient care.

His clinical and surgical interests encompass many subspecialties of orthopedics and traumatology, with a primary focus on spinal surgery. He focuses particularly on scoliosis surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, and complex spinal pathologies. He is an active member of various national and international scientific societies, including the Turkish Orthopedic and Traumatology Association, the Turkish Spine Society, and the Turkish Society of Sports Injuries, Arthroscopy, and Knee Surgery.

Dr. Heydar has published more than twenty international peer-reviewed scientific articles on various topics, primarily spinal deformities, scoliosis, and orthopedic surgical techniques. He has also authored chapters in major reference books in the fields of orthopedics and traumatology and served as editor of an academic book on early-onset scoliosis. In addition, he serves as a section editor for the *Journal of Robotic Surgery* and has participated as a researcher in TÜBİTAK-funded projects and international European Union research collaborations.

Dr. Ahmed Heydar, who is fluent in English, Turkish, Arabic, and Kurdish, continues to contribute to the field of orthopedics and traumatology by combining his international experience with scientific research, high-quality patient care, and medical education.
